The Work You Will Do:
The OPS Research Assistant will be responsible for providing research services to the Program Manager within the Office of Military and Defense and synthesizing the collected research data into actionable information for office use.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
The OPS Research Assistant will be responsible for providing research services to the Program Manager within the Office of Military and Defense and synthesizing the collected research data into actionable information for office use.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Independently complete special assignments and reports as requested by the Program Manager, Military and Defense Programs and Partnerships.
- Collaborate with FloridaCommerce staff to develop content and update two defense-oriented websites.
- Providing suggestions to improve and/or expand office activities.
- Initiate phone calls and/or virtual meetings to gather information and coordinate office related projects.
- Research topics will include:
- The U.S. Department of Defense budget
- Defense industry data, including manufacturing and workforce data.
- Identifying other states with programs and/or organizations focused on supporting the U.S. military.
- Identifying other State of Florida and U.S. Government agencies the Office of Military & Defense should interact with and how to work with them.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in utilization of computer using Microsoft Word®, Excel®, PowerPoint® and Adobe Acrobat®.
- Ability to perform computer-based research activities.
- Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
- Ability to produce professional level written work products that are clear and concise.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team depending on the situation.
- Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices.
- Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a business environment verbally.
- Ability to manage priorities and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, policies and procedures relating to operational and management analysis activities.
Qualifications:
- Ability to interpret statute.
- Knowledge of United States military rank structure and protocol, as well as military/defense installation and organizational missions, specialized language, terminology and acronyms.
As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.
