Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position shall serve as a full-time OPS Hearing Officer in the Office of the General Counsel.  The incumbent is responsible for acting as the informal hearing officer for the Department’s offices, divisions, and bureaus, and as the hearing officer for various other issues including federally funded programs administered by the Department. The position requires excellent research and writing skills.  The position also requires an in-depth understanding of and experience with the Administrative Procedure Act.   The incumbent will be expected to be self-motivated and relied upon to comply with all state and federal timelines for the resolution of issues coming before the Hearing Officer.

 Primary Responsibilities of Attorney:

Conducts legal research to evaluate positions of parties.

Drafts Initial Orders, rules on motions, drafts final reports for adoption by the agency.

Examines and interprets laws, rules and regulations to determine advisability of supporting or defending litigation.

Conducts hearings in person, through videoconference or teleconference, or through written submissions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work independently

Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to develop and provide training

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Knowledgeable in conducting legal research, analysis and drafting

Qualifications:

Must be a member of the Florida Bar in good standing.

Litigation, rulemaking, or administrative law experience is preferred but not required.  Former public defenders and state attorneys are encouraged to apply.

Possess a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or relevant experience determined by the agency.
