Overview:

The Office of Communications (OC) coordinates the public-communication efforts of FWC’s divisions and offices. These efforts include creating content consisting of text, graphics, photos, and video, and then posting it on multiple social media platforms. Staff also handle breaking news, safety alerts, and public outreach events. OC coordinates messaging and activities to educate Floridians and visitors about the role and value of Florida's fish and wildlife resources, fostering a sense of stewardship for these resources. Work at the FWC is cross-functional, meaning duties may span multiple divisions or offices. The Commission expects employees to function across FWC's organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.

FWC’s Office of Communications is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Social Media Assistant to help further the agency’s mission.

This position reports to the Social Media Manager in the Office of Communications and will work closely with the Press Secretary, the Multimedia Services Manager, and other agency staff as and when needed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This position provides assistance and support for our social media accounts and manager. Courteously assists Commission constituents to resolve questions or problems they may have in matters relating to the Commission, its programs or fish and wildlife conservation. Seeks to garner public support for the agency objectives and programs by serving Florida’s citizens in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Collaborates with creative services team and other agency staff to produce and edit digital media such as videos, photographs, PowerPoint presentations, web images, advertisements, memes/gifs, animations, and other communications tools.
  • Assists in writing, editing, posting, and monitoring FWC’s social media accounts. Works well with our Public Information Coordinators and division staff.
  • Customer service: Responds to questions from the public via social media, telephone and email.
  • Checks and confirms facts, information and photo credits within the agency and with a multitude of external entities as required.
  • Provides backup for others during vacation or work travel as required.
  • Advertising and marketing background appreciated, digital advertising experience a plus.
  • Experience with charts and graphs for reports a plus.
  • Actively garner public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida’s citizens in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Skilled in social media platforms including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X (Formerly Twitter) and Flickr. Must be an experienced visual storyteller. Knowledge of producing Stories/Reels and photography on photo editing software with both laptop and phone apps.
  • Experience in various Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, strong critical thinking, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time.
  • Experienced in using Microsoft 365 apps including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to listen effectively, understand and evaluate information/data.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments and projects according to established deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly and effectively prioritize and process information and requests from external and internal sources.
  • Ability to positively communicate and build relationships with a variety of professionals including staff and vendors.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
