FLORIDA COMMISSION ON OFFENDER REVIEW

 

The Florida Commission on Offender Review is looking to fill the Staff Assistant- OPS position. The Commission on Offender Review performs a vital role in Florida’s criminal justice system by preserving the autonomy needed in post-release decisions affecting inmates and ex-offenders. Commissioners preside over weekly meetings at the central office in Tallahassee and various other state locations as required by statute. During these public proceedings, the commissioners make a variety of determinations regarding parole and other releases.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The staff assistant performs varied and extremely confidential work providing clerical support relating to victims’ services by preparing files, tracking status of cases governed by deadlines, handles numerous information requests from various sources to include, but not limited to, governmental agencies and officials, victims and law enforcement agencies directly related parole and clemency, assisting victims, and performing additional clerical functions as needed MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS• High School Diploma required.• One year or more of related experience.• Preference may be given to applicants that possess a college degree from an accredited college or university.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A High School Diploma

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Use of the following office equipment.
  • Telephone, computer, scanner, copier, fax machine.
  • Able to greet callers in a professional manner.
  • Empathy for individuals/ families who have endured trauma.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maturity.
  • Willing to work as part of a team
  • Able to prioritize multiple needs.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of grammar usage and general office procedures.
  • Answer inquiries by telephone, email, or mail from victims/ surviving family members.  Input and update contact information for victims/ survivors.
  •  Direct calls to the appropriate staff member/supervisor.
  • Assist staff with victim notifications concerning clemency, parole, and conditional medical release hearings.
  • Scan and upload documents needed for retrieval at a future date.
  • File, maintain, arrange for storage, retrieve, or reproduce documents, records, and reports.

 

Preference may be given to applicants that possess a college degree from an accredited college or university.

 

As a part of the interview process, a written work sample may be given at the start/conclusion of the verbal interview.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT: It is the policy of the Florida Commission on Offender Review that any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S., and, if applicable, Chapter 408, F.S.
