WORKING TITLE: PERSONNEL SERVICES SPECIALIST
This open competitive advertisement is for an OPS (Other Personal Services) position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL, on the payroll team in the Office of Human Resources.
The mission of the Payroll Office at the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all department employees. The Payroll Office aims to support the financial well-being of staff and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the department's operations.
This position is not a Telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
- Timely Payroll Processing: Ensure accurate and timely processing of biweekly and supplemental payrolls in accordance with departmental procedures and state personnel rules.
- Audit and Manage Payroll: Audit payroll discrepancies, manage overpayment processing, cancel payroll warrants, and complete on-demand payments.
- Handle Leave Adjustments: Process suspension and leave adjustments, and review all leave without pay timesheets before the end of the payroll period.
- Tuition Reimbursement Tracking: Assist with tracking tuition reimbursement, sending and tracking status letters, and recovering monies through personal checks or leave payouts.
- Collaborate on Payroll Projects: Work closely with the Human Resource Consultant on special payroll projects and ensure accuracy in payroll processing with Institutional and Field staff, including new hires, terminations, and salary changes.
BENEFITS:
OPS employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in state group insurance plans. Standard PPO/HMO Options include:
- Employee Only: $25 biweekly
- Spouse Program: $15 biweekly
- Employee & Family: $90 biweekly.

- Vision - FDC offers one single vision plan through Humana with monthly premiums as low as $5.92.
- Life - FDC offers a $25,000 group term life insurance plan to eligible OPS staff through Securian at the low monthly premium of $3.78. When enrolled in basic life, employees may also elect child life and spouse life insurance plans.
- Retirement - As an OPS employee, the Florida FICA Alternative Plan with Corebridge Financial affords you an excellent opportunity to help accumulate money for a secure retirement. You contribute 7.5% of your compensation to this tax deferred plan. All OPS employees are required to participate in this plan and are automatically enrolled.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must possess customer service experience.
- Must possess experience working a professional office setting.
- Must possess at least six months of State Payroll experience.
- Must possess experience verifying payroll in FLAIR.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Payroll/ Accounting experience.
- Experience working in the State of Florida's People First System.
