This open competitive advertisement is for an OPS (Other Personal Services) position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Office of Human Resources.

The mission of the Human Resources Department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to recruit, develop, and retain a skilled and diverse workforce dedicated to supporting the Department's mission.

This position is not a Telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

 

JOB DUTIES:

The Florida Department of Corrections is looking for a Personnel Services Specialist-OPS to join the Office of Human Resources at the Central Office in Tallahassee, Florida. This role involves performing a range of independent professional technical tasks for the Payroll Department.

 

  • Assist with Payroll, Attendance and Leave, FMLA, Military, separations, audits,
  • overpayments, warrant cancellations, on-demand payments.
  • Conducts advanced research in preparation of special projects and reports as assigned by the Office of Human Resources.
  • Performs high-level administrative functions within the Payroll Office including managing the Payroll Inbox for the Payroll Team.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Institutional and Field staff to ensure the accuracy of actions being processed.
  • Assisting with the coordination of the Department’s response to both internal and external audits related to the Office of Human Resources when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and familiar with Department of Management Services Personnel Rules specifically F.A.C. 60L-34.
  • Knowledge of the Bureau of State Payrolls Preparation Manual.
  • Knowledge of FMLA rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize State accounting system (FLAIR/PALM).
  • Knowledge and ability to use People First to conduct research and answer inquiries.
  • Demonstrate skills in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint for querying, interpreting, preparing, and reporting data.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both oral and written, utilizing principles and techniques.
  • Ability to locate and identify essential information efficiently.
  • Demonstrate skills in performing basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply relevant human resource rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

BENEFITS: 

OPS employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in state group insurance plans. Standard PPO/HMO Options include:

    • Employee Only: $25 biweekly
    • Spouse Program: $15 biweekly
    • Employee & Family: $90 biweekly.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must possess customer service experience.
  • Must possess experience working a professional office setting.
  • Must possess two years of professional human resources/personnel experience in payroll, and attendance and leave.
  • Must possess experience reviewing and processing information from multiple documents and various sources to prepare an official document.
  • Must possess at least 6 months experience in FLAIR.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Payroll/ Accounting experience.
  • Experience working in the State of Florida's People First System.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
