ADVERTISING TITLE: Personnel Technician III

This open competitive advertisement is for an OPS (Other Personal Services) position located at Tallahassee, Florida in the Office of Human Resources.

 

The purpose of the Personnel Technician III is to provide comprehensive administrative, clerical, and technical support for HR operations, which includes managing day-to-day office tasks, interpreting policies and collective bargaining agreements, organizing data and official records, and facilitating departmental communication.

 

This position is not a Telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES: 

  • Administrative Support for HR Operations: Provide comprehensive administrative assistance to the Office of Human Resources, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations by managing routine office tasks, coordinating workflows, and supporting staff with clerical needs.
  • Research, Preparation, and Documentation: Assist with gathering information and preparing materials related to collective bargaining. Draft and format professional correspondence for special projects, complex issues, and executive-level review.
  • Policy & Procedure Interpretation: Serve as a resource to staff by providing clear explanations of policies, procedures, rules, Florida Statutes, personnel rules, collective bargaining agreements, and department guidelines.
  • Data & Record Management: Collect statistical data, compile reports, and maintain organized electronic filing systems. Ensure documents are archived, retained, and destroyed appropriately in accordance with official retention schedules.
  • Communication & Technology Support: Answer and route calls on a multi-line phone system, process incoming and outgoing mail, and utilize office software including SharePoint, People First, Excel, Word, and other platforms to support HR administrative functions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Strong telephone etiquette and customer service skills.

• Exceptional written communication skills.

• Knowledge of the State of Florida’s People First system.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access).

• Ability to organize, track, and route documents efficiently.

• Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple assignments.

• Skilled at multitasking in a fast-paced administrative environment.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive HR information.

• Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow up and meet deadlines.

 

BENEFITS:

OPS employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in state group insurance plans. Standard PPO/HMO Options include:

    • Employee Only: $25 biweekly
    • Spouse Program: $15 biweekly
    • Employee & Family: $90 biweekly.

You contribute 7.5% of your compensation to this tax deferred plan. Participation in the plan is mandatory for all OPS employees, with the exception of re-employed retirees, and enrollment is automatic.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of professional human resources or office experience.
  • Official transcripts will be required if selected.
  • Must possess experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
