Position Overview and Responsibilities:

This position is a Planner I position in the Operator Certification Program (OCP). It is a professional position responsible for implementing numerous components of the OCP authorized under Chapter 403, Florida Statutes and developing and implementing multiple components of the OCP as authorized by the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1996, while utilizing environmental expertise to oversee and coordinate the operator licensure.

The duties of this position are directly related to DEP’s primary role of licensing all Drinking Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators, Water Distribution System Operators, as well as all Septic Tank Contractors in the State of Florida.  The threat to public health and the environment from the operation of water and wastewater treatment plants, water distribution systems and septic tanks mandates that only qualified personnel operate these facilities and properly install septic tanks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least four years of verifiable related experience in administrative support functions. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a background and fingerprint check.

 

 

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with rules and statutes governing a State’s regulatory program.
  • Ability to provide effective presentations to staff and the public.
  • Possess excellent organization and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to be detail oriented.
  • Experience Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Teams and Power Point.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Experience in answering a multi-line phone.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field.
  • Knowledge of, or prior experience in, the licensure and certification industry.
  • Knowledge of the Department’s Operator Certification Program and licensing process.
