WORKING TITLE: PLANNING CONSULTANT
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Office of Strategic Initiatives.
The mission of the Office of Strategic Initiatives in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to drive innovation, strategic planning, and continuous improvement within the Department.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Lead and manage special projects from inception to completion, ensuring timelines are met and deliverables align with organizational standards.
- Design and produce high-quality visual materials, including reports, presentations, and communication documents, using Adobe Creative Suite and other design tools.
- Develop clear, accurate, and visually compelling graphs, charts, and other graphics from raw data to support analysis, reporting, and informed decision-making.
- Develop written content that complements visual design, maintaining consistency and clarity across all formats.
- Maintain and manage the Master Calendar, including preparation and facilitation of the monthly Master Calendar meeting.
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned, supporting the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Office of Strategic Initiatives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strategic planning, project management principles, and state policies, including statutory reporting requirements.
- Visual communication standards and design principles for professional publications and presentations.
Skills in:
- Advanced graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) to create visually compelling reports, presentations, and communication materials.
- Transforming raw data into clear visualizations (graphs, charts, infographics); proficiency with Microsoft Power BI is preferred.
- Writing, editing, and proofreading with exceptional accuracy and clarity.
- Managing multiple projects and priorities under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to:
- Integrate design and content to produce high-quality, visually engaging deliverables.
- Read, interpret and visualize data.
- Coordinate and complete special projects independently and collaboratively.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain exceptional attention to detail and adapt to change priorities in a fast-paced environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must possess three (3) years of professional graphic design experience.
- Must possess three (3) years of professional experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Must possess three (3) years of professional project management experience.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
