WORKING TITLE: PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANT SUPERVISOR
This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at the Southwood Office in Tallahassee, FL in Finance & Accounting.
The mission of the Finance and Accounting department in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide accurate, timely, and transparent financial management and reporting.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Accounting and Asset Management Leadership: Supervise and manage accounting functions for the general fixed asset account group at Central Office and the Florida Commission on Offender Review (FCOR), ensuring accurate general ledger accounts and property subsystem maintenance using the FLAIR accounting system.
- Property Inventory Oversight: Act as the property manager for Central Office and FCOR, coordinating physical inventories, reconciling records, managing surplus property activities, and ensuring compliance with Florida Statutes and departmental policies.
- System Implementation and Compliance: Assist in implementing new accounting systems and procedures for fixed asset control, ensuring compliance with updated recommendations and changes.
- Audit and Operational Improvements: Develop operational recommendations and corrective action plans based on audit reports and internal controls, coordinate audit responses, and ensure deficiencies are addressed.
- Team Leadership and Statewide Support: Provide direction and performance evaluations for staff, conduct statewide site visits to address inventory and audit findings, and prepare property reports to support field staff and management.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have three (3) or more years of supervisory experience.
- Must have experience document processes and procedures.
- Must have knowledge of state regulations related to the management and inventory of property.
- Must have reconciliation experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current state employee.
