This is a highly technical electrical engineering.  Individually, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, this positions performs electrical engineering and fire safety plan reviews, and field surveys related to the design, construction, and fire safety of hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, ambulatory surgical centers, intermediate care facilities for the developmentally disabled, and such other facilities, as directed by the agency to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards for state licensure, federal certification and as required as part of the Certificate of Need (CON) application process. The individual in this position is expected to demonstrate, model and reinforce the Agency's fundamental values of fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, excellence, honesty and teamwork.


Working with an interdisciplinary team composed of an Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer and Architect, these positions reviews the plans, specifications, and construction of new and renovation work at these facilities to determine compliance with all applicable codes including the current Florida Building Codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities and other state rules and standards relevant to health care facilities.


In accordance with a pre-approved schedule, reviews project files and conducts construction surveys of health care facilities, both during and upon completion of construction, to confirm that construction of the mechanical systems are in compliance with the approved plans and specifications.  Coordinates findings with the other team surveyors and submits written reports to the team supervisor for review.  Conducts independent construction surveys that may include the survey for compliance of all technical disciplines as required.


Functioning as the facility coordinator for assigned facilities, conducts the entrance and exit meetings, coordinates the survey process of the other team members, tracks all active projects in those facilities and coordinates and schedules reviews and surveys of those facilities with the other team members.  Ensures that team reports, survey comments, and all required paperwork are forwarded to the team supervisor and the licensure section of the agency within specified time frames.  Responsible for keeping team supervisor routinely informed concerning the timely review of all projects in the assigned facility and for notifying the team supervisor if time limits as set by the office are in danger of being exceeded.  Routinely notifies the team supervisor concerning the workload status of assigned facilities.


Understands and enforces state and federal codes and standards as they pertain to these facilities. Prepares reports of findings/deficiencies for the provider, and assists with technical drafts or memorandum or other correspondence as necessary.  Reviews and approves the plan of correction of the facility and conducts follow-up visits to the facility within a specified time frame to survey the corrective action.


Answers all correspondence with supervisory review within established time frames.  Conducts research on technical aspects of the discipline.  Provides technical research for the Electrical Supervisor regarding particular mechanical issues. Completes other duties as assigned.


Knowledge and experience designing electrical system of healthcare and/or large commercial facilities preferred. This position involves some travel to the facilities to conduct the required on site surveys.

Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in electrical engineering.

Registration as a Professional Engineer, in accordance with Chapter 471, F.S.
