The Work You Will Do:

This Planning Consultant position performs work under the direction of the Environmental Administrator for the Division of Water Resource Management’s Source and Drinking Water Program located in Tallahassee, Florida. The position provides technical assistance in the implementation of all aspects of the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The Environmental Consultant participates in meetings with representatives from the regulated community and federal, state, and local governments; develops reports as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and assists with other duties as required.

Pay:

$41,463.48 to $53,920.56

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assists Department staff with interpretations of drinking water related statutes, rules, and policies. Provides training as required to regulatory district offices and approved county health departments;
  • Provide technical assistance on issues related to public water system procedures for use by districts and approved county health departments (ACHDs);
  • Assist with the coordination of intra- and inter-agency drinking water activities;
  • Consult and coordinate with local governments, regional planning agencies, state and federal agencies, business and professional interests and district personnel on the environmental aspects of the Drinking Water Program;
  • Attends in-state and out of state conferences, workshops, meetings and training functions as required; and
  • Manage and oversee the Lead Testing in School and Childcare facilities, FlaWARN, and WaterTracker grants and/or projects.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Federal Safe Drinking Water Act;
  • Ability to understand drinking water concepts and principles;
  • Ability to understand and manage grants and projects;
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable state rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to multiple environmental programs;
  • Ability to communicate information effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with others; and
  • Ability to conduct training and/or speak publicly.

 

Required or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 3 years of verifiable related experience; or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of seven years.
