JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position performs advanced-level work under the limited supervision of the Educational Program Director-DOE, Office of Instructional Materials and Library Media section in the Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support, Division of Public Schools. This position is responsible for the coordination of one or more state adoption cycles and works within the bureau regarding state adoption cycles, tracks reports, plans and certifications of district compliance, provides technical assistance to publishers of instructional materials and districts, and assists with planning, coordinating and facilitating the training of state expert reviewers of instructional materials bid for adoption and state-wide professional learning.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:

  • Attendance at work is an essential job function.
  • Assist in the implementation of a sound program in Solid Waste Education to include creation, distribution, and training using the “Solid Choices” materials.
  • Represent the Department on all interagency committees concerned with protection and education on the environment.
  • Provides leadership and coordination in ways to compliment the implementation of the Sunshine State Standards.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of state curricular initiatives.
  • Provides leadership and technical assistance to district and department personnel on instructional programs, research, innovations, materials and strategies related to solid waste/environmental education.
  • Assists in the implementation of school improvement activities statewide.
  • Plans, develops, organizes and conducts staff development activities.
  • Participates in the activities of professional organizations as they relate to state leadership responsibilities.
  • Assists appropriate agencies in the development, dissemination, distribution and implementation of programs and materials designed for solid waste/environmental education.
  • Manages the budget support for solid waste/environmental education within the Department and that going to the Regional Service Projects.
  • Interpret, in concert with the Department, any laws and rules applicable to Solid Waste/Environmental Education and communicates to stakeholders.
  • Perform the duties necessary to support the work of the Assistance Plus team assigned to as evidenced by increased student performance at currently identified F schools.
  • Performs other duties as required

Organizational skills and the ability to multitask are key to completing the duties and responsibilities of this position. Since this position travels and presents at conferences as well as provides training on a needed basis, the prospective applicant needs to be able to travel and is comfortable presenting to people and training new staff.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Licensure/Registration/Certification/Experience or Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 4 (four) years direct experience working in education or related field.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferences will be given to:

  • Knowledge of database use such as Access and SQL,
  • Knowledge of school reform policies and procedures, curriculum frameworks, Florida Standards.
  • Effective communication strategies, technology, and other state mandated initiatives.
  • Able to communicate clearly; disseminate consistent, accurate, and timely information on legislation and State Board of Education rules.
  • Proficiency in instructional design software.
  • Skilled in public speaking

LEAVE INFORMATION: (CS)

    • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
