JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position performs advanced-level work under the limited supervision of the Educational Program Director-DOE, Office of Instructional Materials and Library Media section in the Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support, Division of Public Schools. This position is responsible for the coordination of one or more state adoption cycles and works within the bureau regarding state adoption cycles, tracks reports, plans and certifications of district compliance, provides technical assistance to publishers of instructional materials and districts, and assists with planning, coordinating and facilitating the training of state expert reviewers of instructional materials bid for adoption and state-wide professional learning.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions:

 

  • Assists and collaborates with agency or interagency personnel in the design and development of resources and strategies for implementation of instruction at the state and district levels.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and support of state curricular initiatives such as the Course Code Directory, Florida’s state academic standards, virtual instructional provider reviews, Florida’s Value-Added Models and instructional materials adoption.
  • Assists in the implementation of projects or initiatives led by interagency bureaus and teams including, but not limited to, the Division of Early Learning, Bureau of School Improvement, the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services, the Bureau of Student Achievement through Language Acquisition and the Bureau of K-12 Student Assessment.
  • Oversees the fidelity and implementation of benchmarks-aligned, high-quality instruction.
  • The employee may be required to travel in-state or out-of-state to complete the duties assigned.
  • Ensures department compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Plans, develops, organizes, and conducts professional learning activities related to the Office of Instructional Materials and Library Media at the state and district levels.
  • The employee will participate in professional learning for the enhancement of essential skills and content related to the Office of Instructional Materials and Library Media.
  • Maintains files and documentation; generate appropriate responses to information requests.
  • Assists appropriate agencies in the development, dissemination, distribution and implementation of resources for the Office of Instructional Materials and Library Media at the district and state levels.
  • Consults with and advises assessment personnel in the development of assessment materials related to the Office of Instructional Materials and Library Media.
  • Provides leadership and technical assistance to district and departmental personnel on the instructional materials adoption process and all related activities, as well as providing technical assistance to representatives of publishing companies participating in Florida’s adoption process.
  • Provides coordination and oversight of the instructional materials contract and bid process, which includes:
  • Processing publishers’ bid deposits and fees, cash-in-lieu of bonds, and deposit returns required for publisher participation in the adoption process.
  • Tracking and reporting the deposits and fees, cash-in-lieu of bonds, deposit returns, and deposit forfeitures related to instructional materials adoptions to the Comptroller.
  • Preparing and finalizing publisher contracts.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, and conducts training activities to assist district personnel and publishers in the use of the instructional materials online evaluation system and publisher database
  • Training of state-level evaluators and allocation of evaluators in the system.
  • Provides leadership and coordination in the implementation and revision of the instructional materials adoption process.
  • Participates in professional development for the enhancement of position-related skills.
  • Training of state level-evaluators and allocation of evaluators in the portal system.
  • Serve as Department liaison with districts, publishers, and depositories regarding state adoption of instructional materials.
  • Serve on various internal and external committees, task forces and work groups as required.
  • Participates in professional development for the enhancement of position related skills.
  • Provide leadership and technical assistance to district and department personnel on instructional programs, research, innovations, materials, and strategies related to the content of library media and instructional materials.
  • Development of resources to address district/teacher needs for professional development and increased participation and/or assessment performance related to library media.
  • Participates in the activities of professional organizations as appropriate to provide statewide leadership for library media K-12 educators and instructional materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 4 (four) years direct experience working in education or related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to provide work samples of writing skills for grammar, editing and communication review upon request.

LEAVE INFORMATION: (CS)

    • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
