The Work You Will Do:

Project Management Support Engineer/Office of Design/Production Support Office

 

This position will be responsible for supporting Project Management training, tools, resources, and programs, including managing the Design Standard Scope of Services and Staff Hour Estimation program (procedure, applications, guidelines & forms).

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Determine and document the training needs to support Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project management activities for both in-house and consultant personnel.  Develop, implement and deliver Project Management training programs at conferences, meetings, and trainings hosted by the Production Support Office and/or other FDOT offices.

 

Serve as the primary author for development, management and control of online Department Project Management resources, tools and websites (including SharePoint) to support and implement innovative statewide Project Management Programs.  Support the development and maintenance of the Office of Design training SharePoint site.

 

Manage the Standard Scope of Services and Staff Hour Development process, online tools and procedure. Organize and lead District, Central Office and consultant personnel to maintain and update the standard scope of services, and the staff hour development forms and guidance documents. Serve as the point of contact for district staff for scope and staff hour estimation issues.

 

Support special projects by providing project management and professional engineering expertise to other project managers and engineering professionals.  Serve as Project Manager on special projects when assigned, keeping management informed of project schedule, budget, issues and status.  

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of Project Management concepts, principals and functions in the delivery of Transportation Systems.
  • Knowledge of engineering and design standards, concepts, principles and terminology in the delivery of Transportation Systems (from Planning through Maintenance).
  • Knowledge of the development process for project scopes and staff hour estimations.

Skills in:

  • Skilled in developing and delivering training.
  • Skilled in the management of transportation plan delivery.
  • Skilled in the use of a personal computer and applicable software used for the collection, evaluation and presentation of data and procedures.
  • Skilled in the management and coordination of a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Skilled in communicating technical information clearly, accurately and effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
  • Skilled in analyzing and interpreting laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines and other data, and preparing said items in a clear and concise manner for the purpose of reporting to management.

Ability to:

  • Ability to identify training needs and prepare a training plan.
  • Ability to perform research, conduct surveys, perform analysis, and interpret data from such.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams either as a participant, facilitator or leader.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively, schedule resources effectively, plan, organize, manage and prioritize multiple work assignments, manage time, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop technical scope of services and staff hour estimates and negotiate staff hours.
  • Ability to manage project scopes, schedules, staff hours and budgets.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various personnel inside and outside of the Department.
  • Ability to adapt to and support various needs of the Project Management Section.

 

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • Professional Engineering Licensure in the State of Florida, pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes.

 

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471 and two years of post-registration experience.
