Requirements:

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory criminal history check (fingerprint-based) in accordance with Chapter 435, Florida Statutes.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in visual communication, motion picture art or digital media studies.
  • Completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school, or community college.
  • 1 year of audio visual and digital media communications experience.
  • Experience as described above can substitute for the required college education.

Overview:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Office of Community Relations (CRO) is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve in the Audio-Visual Communications Team who provide audio visual and digital media communications expertise to help further the agency’s mission. The Office of Community Relations coordinates the public-communication efforts of FWC’s divisions and offices. These efforts include issuing news releases on agency programs and activities and serving as media spokespersons. CRO coordinates activities to educate Floridians and visitors of the role and value of Florida's fish and wildlife resources and to foster a sense of stewardship for these resources.

 

The FWC has an atmosphere of people who are passionate about what they do and have a strong desire to help residents and visitors of Florida while balancing the needs of the state’s fish and wildlife resources. The successful candidate for the Public Information Specialist position will be proactive and passionate about the agency’s success and the public’s perception of the agency.

 

This position reports to the Media Services Manager for the Office of Community Relations and will work closely with the Community Relations Director, A/V Team Leader, and Media Services team. The person in this position will need to work outside of standard business hours and frequent travel is required.

Work at the FWC is cross-functional meaning duties may cross division/office lines. The Commission expects employees to function across FWC's organizational structure by providing their skills and expertise wherever needed through work on teams or as directed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The primary functions for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborates with the media services team, and other agency staff to produce and edit digital media such as videos, photographs, PowerPoint presentations, web images, advertisements, memes/gifs, animations, and other communications tools.
  • A/V Technician for FWC commission meetings, public outreach events and internal events.
  • Assists with planning and scheduling video and photo shoots.
  • Assists with equipment maintenance.
  • Manages purchasing card transactions as needed.
  • Manages daily administrative duties such as email, calendar management, and communication with staff.
  • Actively garner public support for agency objectives and programs by serving Florida’s citizens in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Professional Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Final Cut Pro.
  • Experience in videography and photography using a wide range of camera equipment.
  • Experience with Audio Visual equipment set-up and operation including audio systems, video switchers, projectors, and studio lighting.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, strong critical thinking, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects at one time.
  • Professional experience using Microsoft 365 apps including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to listen effectively, understand and evaluate information/data.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments and projects according to established deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly and effectively prioritize and process information and requests from external and internal sources.
  • Ability to positively communicate and build relationships with a variety of professionals including staff and vendors.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
