WORKING TITLE: Public Records Consultant
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Public Records Unit.
As a member of the Office of Administration, our mission is to provide essential administrative support and services to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Florida Department of Corrections. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Receive and log public record requests, prioritize them based on urgency, and coordinate with team leads and supervisors to gather responsive records quickly.
- Consult with Department employees to determine applicable exemptions and reference legal justifications according to Florida Statutes and Administrative Rules.
- Review and understand Florida Statutes on exempt/confidential public records to assist staff and requestors with interpreting exemptions.
- Independently handle complex requests, make recommendations, and ensure complete and accurate responses by reviewing documents and conducting thorough records searches.
- Respond to inquiries from field staff, other agencies, and the public about agency rules and public records requests, and participate in special projects and other exciting duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
- One (1) year of experience processing criminal history records, HIPAA, or Freedom of Information Act requests.
- One (1) year of experience using online software for management of Public Record Requests.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
