WORKING TITLE: Public Records Consultant
This open competitive advertisement is for an OPS (Other Personal Services) position located at Central Office in the Public Records Unit.
As a member of the Office of Administration, our mission is to provide essential administrative support and services to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Florida Department of Corrections. This position is not a Telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
- Efficiently receive, log, and prioritize public record requests, working closely with team leads and supervisors to quickly gather the needed records.
- Collaborate with Department employees to identify applicable exemptions and provide legal justifications based on Florida Statutes and Administrative rules.
- Master the Florida Statutes on exempt and confidential public records to help staff and requestors understand and interpret exemptions.
- Tackle complex requests independently, offering recommendations and ensuring thorough and accurate responses by reviewing documents and conducting deatiles record searches.
- Engage with field staff, other agencies, and the public to answer questions about agency rules and public records requests, while also participating in special projects and other exciting tasks.

You contribute 7.5% of your compensation to this tax deferred plan. All OPS employees are required to participate in this plan and are automatically enrolled.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have five (5) years of experience using Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook).
- One (1) year of experience processing criminal history records, HIPAA, or Freedom of Information Act requests.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
