POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Assist in Design Exception, Design Variation, and Community Aesthetic Feature reviews.  Also assists in Quality Assurance Review and Analysis activities such as reviewing or participating in a joint review and analysis process in the field or office.  This work requires pulling project schedules and other data from supplied documentation in support of analytical processes, running engineering software to evaluate potential severity and associated costs of design element non-compliance, and evaluating crash histories and safety reports.

 

Assist in the production, development, and delivery of training materials, guidance documents, and handbooks.  Prepare presentations, technical documents, and training materials for use in instruction related to the office mission and core duties through the use of computer web, and audio.

 

Assists with coordination with Central Office, District Offices, Federal Highway Administration, and Industry (consulting, utility, contracting) engineering staffs who submit engineering documents for review.  Assists in providing engineering recommendations to the State Roadway Design Engineer on review findings.

 

Maintain analysis and tracking tool for Design Exceptions and Design Variations so district compliance with criteria and standards can be evaluated and appropriate recommendations provided.  Log and track District submitted Exception/Variations/Community Aesthetic Features.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of roadway design concepts and terminology.  Skill in the use of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint  and Excel software programs.  Ability to analyze and interpret roadway design criteria and requirements.  Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques.  Ability to solve problems relating to roadway design.  Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.  Ability to communicate design information effectively verbally and in writing.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or its equivalent and three years experience.
