Your Specific Responsibilities:

Incumbents in Regulatory Specialist II positions will make an immediate and meaningful impact in the lives of Floridians. They perform duties that guarantee qualified health care professionals can work in the state and provide all Floridians access to the health care they need to lead healthier lives. By increasing the number of licensed health care professionals in the state, incumbents also support those currently working in health care professions who are so critical in our current and any future public health emergency.

 

Incumbents will work in a professional, administrative setting in the Bureau of Health Care Practitioner’s board office such as the Boards of Chiropractic Medicine, Clinical Laboratory Personnel, Optometry, Nursing Home Administrator, and the Certification Units for EMT, Paramedics, Radiology Technologists, and Medical Physicists.

 

Incumbents perform duties similar to school registrars, data entry clerks, and other positions who ensure compliance with regulations or rules and provide professional assistance to members of the public. We are particularly looking for individuals passionate about public health and/or public service, but knowledge or experience in any health-related field or relevant Florida statutes is not required.

 

Exact duties and responsibilities can vary slightly by board office and position, but common duties for Regulatory Specialist II’s include:

  • Independently reviews and evaluates transcripts, degrees, and other educational materials of applicants to determine eligibility for certification and licensure in a specific profession, in accordance with respective Florida statutory and Board requirements.
  • Enters and maintains accurate data and uploads documentation regarding licensees, the status of applications and licensure in relevant electronic databases.
  • Responds directly and in a timely fashion via writing or over the phone to public inquiries on licensure status, deficiencies, and requirements; relevant statues or applicable board rules; and technical issues regarding the licensure process.
  • Conducts research into educational materials, Florida Statutes, Board rules, and other relevant items to make decisions on whether an applicant’s education meets the accreditation standards for the requested license or certification.
  • Establishes and maintains a paper and/or electronic filing system of all documentation and communication received from those applying for licensure in an assigned profession(s).
  • Summarizes and prepares application files and supporting documentation for review by Board members.
  • Supports supervisors by preparing agenda materials for board/committee meetings.
  • Performs other related work as required to maintain an efficient office which responds promptly to the needs of licensees, applicants, consumers, the legislature, and other areas of the Department, including, but not limited to, training new employees and assisting with office phone coverage.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative in carrying out assignments.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and apply Florida Statutes, rules, policies, and procedures for licensing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to concentrate, provide great attention to detail, and maintain a pre-approved work schedule.
  • Ability to work independently and establish and maintain dependable, effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to learn and utilize job-specific software such as LEIDS and AxiomPro and office equipment such as phones, fax machines, scanners, and copiers.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office software and in using Windows-based computers.

 

Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those who meet the following minimum requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND 2 years’ experience that includes data entry, document preparation, computer software use, evaluating legal documents or evaluating for compliance with regulations, customer service, or handling sensitive information.
  • College education can substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
