This position ensures adequate cash is available in trust funds to support current disbursements.  This position also records transactions for the Department’s toll facilities and monitors transfers in from other agencies.

Anticipated Biweekly Salary:

$2,262.15 / biweekly

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Responsible for recording appropriate accounting transactions for all Department toll facilities for operations and maintenance costs, budgeted and paid for from the State Transportation Trust Fund. Accounting transactions include transfers between funds and accounting journals to record intra-fund receivables and payables.

 

Perform daily cash analysis for Department trust funds, invest and disinvest as necessary, and ensure appropriate cash balances are available to meet Department needs. Ensure that Revenue Smoothing amounts received pursuant to Section 320.20, F.S., are not invested.

 

Prepare accurate and timely toll wire reports to the State Board of Administration and Turnpike. Receipt weekly toll wires and record accounting journals in the applicable toll funds. Update the toll revenue summary for the toll wire amounts for all Department toll facilities.

 

Accurately track and timely process debt service payments to the State Board of Administration for applicable bond series.

 

Monitor and track cash received from other departments (e.g., Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Department of Revenue) and ensure accurate amounts are recorded in the month-end cash receipt summary file.

 

Calculate and transfer funds quarterly to General Revenue for service charge amounts in accordance with Florida Statutes.

 

Assist with the DFS quarterly report of revolving and clearing funds. Ensure bank statements are received timely for all reported bank accounts.

 

Assists with year-end closing.

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Balancing and reconciling accounts
  • Efficient and effective use of computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Ability to:

  • Interpret and apply accounting and auditing theory, standards, practices and procedures
  • Organize, maintain, review, analyze, evaluate, and report complex financial data
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records
  • Communicate clearly and effectively and convey ideas both verbally and in writing
  • Plan, organize, and conduce activities independently and with minimal supervisor
  • Exercise proper judgment
  • Work effectively with other Department of Transportation offices and the public
  • Work effectively as a team member (teamwork, open-mindedness and a cooperative attitude)
  • Perform duties under pressure and time constraints and meet deadlines

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of work-related experience in a business-related field or a college degree in a business-related field can be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
