Position Overview and Responsibilities:

This position serves as the primary Safety Officer (Alternate Safety Coordinator) for the Department of Management Services. It serves as a liaison with the Department of Financial Services for the Loss Prevention and Risk Management Program. The position will report to Finance & Administration and assist the Division of Real Estate Development and Management (REDM) with the Environmental Health and Safety Program as time allows. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide daily oversight of functional operations to safety managers and personnel for all areas of the safety program for all divisions by developing and implementing a Risk Management Plan for DMS. Safety guidelines include Basic Safety Training, Hazard reporting, Inspections, Accident Investigation, Safety Committee, Job Safety Analyses, and communication of safety awareness.
  • Coordinate training for DMS personnel with an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer (if applicable) for all areas within General Industry and Construction of higher risk areas that includes specifically confined spaces; lock-out/tag-out of hazardous energy sources; hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and emergency response to releases of these materials.
  • Review technical reports from the Division of Risk Management and prepare interpretation for the DMS Safety Advisory Board and the agency Secretary.
  • Prepare the agenda and other related documents for the DMS Safety Advisory Board meetings.
  • Prepare and coordinate DMS in adopting a quarterly safety specific award recognition program that will be integrated with the other award/nomination on the DMS SharePoint page.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in facility coordination, project management, real estate or similar.
  • Proficiency in utilization of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
