A Juris Doctor (JD) Degree is required.

 

Additional requirements:

  • Admittance to the Florida Bar.
  • Two (2) years of legal experience.

Minimum of 1 year of litigation experience is preferred.

DFS Senior Attorneys work on a sophisticated portfolio with a high degree of private-sector relevance.

The salary range for this position is $78,795.00 -$102,000.00 with benefits (state health insurance and retirement contributions) worth approximately $29,000-$40,000 (per DMS).

Senior Attorney positions require two years of legal experience.

 

There is no billing requirement for this position, and it is located in Tallahassee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and either Westlaw or Lexis/Nexis legal research tools.

 

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

 

The Workers’ Compensation section represents the Division of Workers’ Compensation in protecting the public from the immediate danger to public health, safety, and welfare posed by employers who fail to protect their workers by providing workers' compensation coverage. Attorneys will have early responsibility for their own litigation caseload of administrative enforcement cases, including developing case strategy, conducting discovery, and representing the Department in final hearings at the Division of Administrative Hearings. Section attorneys also handle appellate litigation, rule challenges, and advise the Division in the areas of medical services, self-insurance, injured employee assistance, and legislative analysis.
