Position Summary

The OGC offers a unique opportunity to enrich your administrative law experience and expand your knowledge in multiple areas of the law, that includes appearance in criminal and civil court, contractual disputes, and cases involving human resources and personnel litigation. The Work You Will Do 

This attorney will provide legal counsel to the Agency on a variety of legal issues.  This attorney will provide support to other Senior Attorneys in all aspects of litigation and administrative actions.  They will be provided with the opportunity to work in several areas of the law, with an opportunity for cross-training and growth.  This position reports directly to the Deputy General Counsel.

OGC is headquartered at the State Office in Tallahassee, located within the Capital Circle Office Complex at 4030 Esplanade Way.  APD has regional offices across the state. The Agency is currently looking to fill positions in Tallahassee, Pensacola, Wildwood, or Lakeland.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Member of the Florida Bar in Good Standing with a minimum of 2 (two) years of experience as an Attorney.

 

  • Valid Driver's License or other reliable transportation to travel for work purposes

 

  • Willingness and ability to learn and adapt to continually evolving software and technology.

 

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Legal terminology

 

  • Florida laws and legal procedure, including administrative procedures and practices.

 

  • Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat

 

Knowledge and experience with:

  • public records and their exemptions, HIPAA, and laws and ethics in government.

 

Willingness and ability to:

  • Learn and adapt to continually evolving software and technology.

 

Ability to:

  • Provide legal counsel and represent the Agency at the administrative level.

 

  • Perform legal research and prepare various legal documents.

 

  • Interpret state and federal legislation, laws, and rules.

Direct Deposit Program

As a condition of employment, a person appointed to a position in the State Personnel System is required to participate in the Direct Deposit Program.  Rather than receiving a paper paycheck, your funds will be deposited directly into your account at your financial institution. This will be accomplished by Electronic Funds Transfer. Banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions are eligible to accept such deposits. Retirement funds are also required to be in the Direct Deposit Program.

Background Screening Requirement

It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
