POSITION SUMMARY:
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is seeking to fill two Senior Attorney positions within the Office of General Counsel in Tallahassee, Florida. The FDLE’s Office of General Counsel (OGC) works closely with the department’s Command Staff, regional Special Agents in Charge, and Program Directors to provide legal assistance and advice that is responsive to the specialized needs of the department, region or division.
The OGC serves the entire agency in many different capacities. These include general state agency issues, such as human resource legal issues, public records requests, FDLE-specific matters, such as advising agents regarding ongoing criminal investigations and criminal intelligence gathering, Firearms Purchase Program concerns, DNA and Crime Laboratories legal questions, and Sexual Predator / Sexual Offender Registration questions. The OGC also handles Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) professional licensure prosecutions; agency contracts and purchasing issues and administrative rulemaking. The OGC members provide training on a variety of criminal law and procedure topics for FDLE’s Special Agents.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- One position will represent FDLE in “Officer Discipline” actions, maintaining an active prosecutorial caseload to include litigation in front of the Division of Administrative Hearings on administrative license discipline cases involving law enforcement, correctional and correctional probation officers.
- The other position will support the Department’s Public Records section, to include advising on obligations relating to public records under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, and representing the department in litigation for public records matters and in Capital Post Conviction proceedings in death penalty cases under the rules of criminal procedure.
To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A member of the Florida bar for two or more years and a minimum of two years legal work experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Legal work experience as a Florida prosecutor (Assistant State Attorney or Assistant Statewide Prosecutor);
- Preference will be given to candidates with Florida criminal law experience.
BASE SALARY:
- $82,500.00 - $97, 500.00
Salary for the position will be commensurate with experience.

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
