PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (not required): 

  • Education level - Associates degree with major in accounting, finance, business admin./management, or related field

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is a highly responsible professional accounting position in the Financial Reporting Unit that prepares monthly and annual financial statements; calculates amount to be transferred monthly to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF), assists with audit requests, compiles backup, and prepares forms for the Statewide ACFR; and assists with various requests received from other units within the Lottery.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Prepares monthly and annual financial statements used to calculate the transfer to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund and produce the Lottery’s ACFR.
  • Prepares ad hoc schedules, reports, or backup that are periodically requested from other units such as Communications and Management.
  • Prepares back-up documentation and journal entries that support the financial reports.
  • Provides technical assistance concerning accounting entries to other sections.
  • Prepares many varied types of reconciliations, specifically cash accounts, bad debt, gaming vendors, investments held at SBA, and property to ensure proper accounting records.
  • Assist in compiling information for the preparation of the Annual Lottery ACFR.
  • Assist in compiling information related to the forms for year-end processing with the Department of Financial Services.
  • Assist Accounting Director and Accounting and Finance Manager with audit requests.
  • Prepare the annual Collection Report that is submitted to President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the CFO and DFS’s financial reporting unit.
  • Performs other related duties as appropriate or assigned by management.   
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of the Lottery’s Responsible Gaming program, including the No Underage Play and Play Within Your Means messaging, and will ensure retailers and players are aware of the program and provided information, as necessary.

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules and regulations to the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to use computer spreadsheets and word processing software capabilities.
  • Knowledge of the Florida Accounting Information Resource Subsystem (FLAIR) reports.
  • Knowledge of routine types of business correspondence.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Financial and Governmental accounting principles and standards.
  • Total hours in workweek: 40

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
