Your Specific Responsibilities:

Reviews geotechnical engineering work prepared by in-house personnel and consultants, including assessment of the recommended foundation systems based on performance, constructability, vibration, and noise constraints, etc. and overall cost.

Works with Structures Office personnel and consultants to resolve geotechnical engineering problems. Performs foundation design analysis for bridges, walls and miscellaneous structures founded on shallow pile and drilled shaft foundations; prepares geotechnical engineering related design reports, construction specifications and scope of consultant services; performs geotechnical engineering analysis and prepares documentation for the structure standards section; prepares justifications for instrumented load tests, design load tests, and reviews load testing reports.

Reviews and directs research projects, study state-of-the-art foundation exploration techniques and implement those useful to the Florida Department of Transportation. Trains and implements new technologies/methodologies found through research.

Develops and reviews revisions to geotechnical Construction Specifications. Reviews geotechnical Modified Special Provisions and Technical Special Provisions. Monitors the use of geotechnical Developmental Specifications and recommends modifications as needed. Assists the Construction and Maintenance offices on structures and roadway geotechnical aspects.

Prepares Excel & Mathcad spreadsheets to perform geotechnical design calculations in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation practice.

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the geotechnical and foundation engineering specialty area.
  • Knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation design, construction, production and operations.

Skills in:

  • Skilled in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
  •  Skilled in analyzing and interpreting engineering data.

 

Ability to:

  • Ability to solve problems relating to geotechnical and foundation engineering.
  • Ability to perform geotechnical plans and field reviews.
  •  Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques.
  •  Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively.
  •  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • Registration as Professional Engineer pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes.
