This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, Florida.  The selected applicant shall reside within 50 miles of Tallahassee, FL.

 

Appointment Rate - $62,315.24

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This is a career service, sworn Inspector position that serves as the training officer for the Office of Inspector Genral (OIG) and the office's liaison with the  agency's Bureau of Staff Development, FLorida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC).
  • The incumbent serves as the Inventory Officer for the Office of Inspector General responsible for maintaining and ordering all issued equipment for sworn officers.
  • The incumbent serves as the Professional Compliance Officer responsible for conducting Office of Inspector General employee background investigations.
  • Additional duties may include investigative activities and/or special assignments.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet the minimum qualifications and standards as set forth in section 943.13, Florida Statute and possess an active Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer Certification.
  • Must possess at least seven (7) years of full-time experience as a Correctional Officer or Correctional Probation Officer within a criminal justice agency with four (4) of the seven (7) years of experience conducting internal affairs investigations or have a minimum of four years as an inspector within the FDC Office of Inspector General.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • An associate degree from an accredited college can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. Unsworn investigative experience within a State of Florida, Office of Inspector General, can count on a year-for-year basis, for a maximum of two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of F.A.C. 11B rules concerning the hiring and maintaining certifications on sworn staff.
  • Knowledge of FDC and Staff Development procedures on in-service training.
  • Knowledge of the OIG directives on employee selection and firearms directives.
  • Have and maintain CJSTC General Instructor Certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of s.112.532 – 112.534, F.S. (Law Enforcement Officers’ and Correctional Officers’ Rights)

FLORIDA STATUTE 943 REQUIRES THAT ANY PERSON EMPLOYED IN THIS CLASS MUST:

  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • Be a citizen of the United States, notwithstanding any laws of the State to the contrary.
  • Be a high school graduate or its "equivalent" as the term may be determined by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission of the Department of Law Enforcement.
  • Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, nor have received a dishonorable or undesirable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.
  • Have his/her processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency.
  • Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, based on specifications established by the Commission.
  • Have a good moral character as defined by Administrative Code 11B-27-0011, by a background investigation under procedures established by the Commission.
  • Possess a current certificate of law enforcement officer compliance for basic employment certification issued by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
  • Pass a urine drug test as a condition of employment.
