Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Professional Accountant position is within the Financial Accounting and Fixed Assets section of the Bureau of Accounting and is responsible for performing a wide variety of accounting and reconciliation functions. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and reconciling all agency revolving funds; monitoring and reconciling bank cash balances in Florida PALM; maintaining the financial quality control and assurances in the prevention and detection of any financial inconsistencies with statutes, guidelines, and/or policies; reviewing and developing processes to monitor the accountability of all revolving fund revenue collected and distributed by the agency; coordinating with management to ensure proper controls are in place; and evaluating reports and agency business systems for accuracy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of State of Florida accounting policies and procedures.
- Skill in accounting and banking principles and practices.
- Skill in reconciling financial data, balancing financial accounts, and comparing records to determine whether the figures are accurate and in agreement.
- Ability to use analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Detail oriented with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Skill in Microsoft Office applications including Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Skill in using formulas in excel and queries in Access.
- Ability to use sound judgment to identify problems, generate and evaluate alternative solutions, and make recommendations.
- Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage completing deadlines.
- Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external customers, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work well independently yet works cohesively within the section to maintain internal control measures.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- Experience with reconciliation and banking fundamentals.
- Experience with accounting and financial data.
- High attention to detail.
- Microsoft Office applications include Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience using PALM for Revenue reporting.
