ADVERTISING TITLE: Senior Professional Accountant
This open state advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Accounts Payable.
As a member of the Finance and Accounting team, our mission is to ensure the financial integrity and accountability of the Florida Department of Corrections. We are dedicated to managing our financial resources efficiently, providing accurate financial information, and supporting our operations through sound fiscal practices and strategic financial planning.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for the processing of revenue generating contracts and agreements. Duties may include but will not be limited to the following:
- Review and approve revenue-generating contracts and agreements, prepare accurate invoices, and track receipts. Input and code documents into the computerized accounting system, and review deposits and accounting entries.
- Maintain and audit accounts receivable ledgers to ensure they accurately reflect the department's obligations. Review and adjust accounting records as needed.
- Develop and help implement operational recommendations and corrective action plans based on accounting data analysis and internal audit reports. Follow up to ensure compliance with recommendations.
- Reconcile transactions, prepare, and submit timely reports, and provide additional documentation as needed. Ensure all background documentation is complete.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, vendors, auditors, and other customers. Assist with debt collection actions, produce annual and quarterly reports, and support the implementation of FL PALM tasks related to the Revenue Section. Perform other related duties and special projects as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Two (2) years of governmental accounting experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Revenue accounting experience within the State of Florida.
- Experience with FLAIR transactions.
- Experience with the debt collection process within the State of Florida.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
