SPECIAL AGENT POOL POSITIONS

PROTECTIVE OPERATIONS SERVICES

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is currently seeking law enforcement officers to fill multiple special agent positions within the Protective Operations Services (POS) in Tallahassee to provide security for the Governor, his immediate family, Governor’s Office, Governor’s Mansion and grounds.

To be considered as a potential applicant, you must meet the minimum qualification(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This hiring process may establish a pool to fill current and future vacancies. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Three (3) years of sworn law enforcement experience; or
  2. A bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university with a major in criminology/criminal justice, accounting, finance, computer science or related fields.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Special Agents assigned to the Protective Operations Section are sworn law enforcement officers who are trained to protect the Governor and First Family, while in Tallahassee, as well as other locations. Candidates in this position will have the opportunity to travel within Florida, nationally and internationally. Special Agents on this detail will work shifts, including holidays and weekends. Work schedules are adjusted on a regular basis and the applicant must be willing to accept this flexible schedule as well as extensive travel requirements.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data; and
  • Ability to effectively interview suspects, complainants, and witnesses.

NOTES:

  • Applicants must be a certified Florida law enforcement officer; possess a passing score on the state of Florida law enforcement certification examination and be eligible to receive the law enforcement certification in accordance with Section 943.13, Florida Statutes; or completed the Florida Equivalency of Training (CJSTC 76) and be eligible to receive the law enforcement certification at the time of application.
  • This position is classified as Special Risk retirement, which provides eligible members a greater retirement credit accrual rate and requires fewer years of service to reach full retirement benefits than is required for non-Special Risk members.

  • All successful applicants must pass a physical agility test during the initial hiring phase. Candidates for hire must successfully complete a background investigation, oral board, financial credit check, drug screen and psychological evaluation.
  • Applicants must possess and maintain throughout employment a valid driver’s license.
  • Persons selected will be hired at the minimum salary of $45,819.54 and increases are granted based upon appropriations as determined by the Florida Legislature. 

SPECIAL NOTES:

Special Agent applicants for assignment to POS: All Special Agents are assigned to Tallahassee. All applicants must be able to complete 20 pushups, 30 sit ups in a minute then a 2 mile run in 18 minutes or less at the time of assessment followed by an untimed 100 yard swim qualification and retrieve a 10lb weight from approximately 8-10 foot depth. All applicants must accept a 3 year minimum commitment to the section before requesting transfer to other Special Agent responsibilities statewide.
