Your Specific Responsibilities:

Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work.  Has the authority to effectively recommend the hiring, transferring, suspension, layoff, recalls, promotions, discharges, assignments, rewards, or disciplinary actions for subordinate employees. Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff. Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks.

Plans, manages, and coordinates on a statewide basis, the Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) technology and associated activities for the Department. The position plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates staff, and budget for the following areas and activities: Engineering/CADD applications development and maintenance, statewide application support and training, including consultants where applicable, coordination of CADD activities with the Districts and the Turnpike Enterprise, CADD Support Groups, Office of Information Technology, Consultants, and Contractors.

Direct and supervise the office in the production of policies, procedures, manuals, and guidelines related to CADD technology.

Provides input into the update of the Department’s Information Technology Resource Plan and the proposed spending plan of funds managed by the Department that address the hardware needs for the CADD program

. 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of an Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)
  • engineering design, construction, production and operations.
  • department Leadership principles and practices.
  • the principles and practices of supervision and management.

Skills in:

  • the Department’s CADD software and CADD standards.
  • the use of Department utilized CADD/engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.

Ability to:

  • solve problems relating to engineering.
  • plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

  • employ supervisory practices to achieve effective results from employees.
  • to plan, manage, and track a budget and contracts.
  • oversee and manage the cost center activities associated with staffing.

  • effectively communicate technical information verbally and in writing.
  • be proficient in and effectively support the FDOT CADD software suite and digital delivery process.
  • plan, organize, and direct CADD program activities.

  • This position is required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.
