The Work You Will Do:

State Project Management Support Engineer/Office of Design/Production Support Office

 

This position will supervise the completion of Project Management Programs, including Errors and Omissions, Project Management Guide, Standard Scope of Services and Staff Hour Development Forms, and Project Management Training. Facilitate the communication of statewide Project Management Programs, including related training, tools, best practices, guidelines, handbooks, policies, procedures, initiatives and other resources, to inform and educate Department and consultant project managers on issues related to Project Management.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Supervises employees spending the majority of the time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work.  Has the authority to effectively recommend the hiring, transferring, suspension, lay off, recall’s, promotions, discharges, assignments, rewards, or disciplinary actions for subordinate employees.  Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with subordinate staff.  Provides direction and ensures that all subordinates receive training and instruction in methods and techniques necessary to safely perform their assigned tasks.  Supervise the completion of Project Management Programs, including Errors and Omissions, Project Management Guide, Standard Scope of Services and Staff Hour Development Forms, and Project Management Training. Manage section functions including budget, personnel actions, and any necessary administrative duties.

 

Facilitate the communication of statewide Project Management Programs, including related training, tools, best practices, guidelines, handbooks, policies, procedures, initiatives and other resources, to inform and educate Department and consultant project managers on issues related to Project Management. Conduct (at minimum) quarterly meetings with District Consultant Project Management Engineers (DCPMEs) to discuss project management issues and available or needed training to address the areas.

 

Analyze Department information, databases, resources, initiatives and best practices, to identify, develop, document, report, recommend and implement new and innovative applications that allow for continued advancement of the statewide Project Management Programs. Develop and maintain manuals, policies, procedures, handbooks and guidelines related to Project Management Programs.

 

Support special projects by providing project management and professional engineering expertise to other project managers and engineering professionals. Serve as Project Manager on special projects when assigned, keeping management informed of project schedule, budget, issues and status.

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and project management.
  • Knowledge of Department personnel and administrative policies.
  • Knowledge of budget process.
  • Knowledge of engineering, design, construction, production and/or operations relating to transportation infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and budgeting transportation projects.

Skills in:

  • Skilled in the use of computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, database management and presentations.
  • Skilled in technical writing and effective communication of engineering information.

Ability to:

  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams as a presenter, participant, facilitator, and leader.

 

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

  • Professional Engineering Licensure in the State of Florida, pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes.

 

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • This position is required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.
