The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) provide highway safety and security through excellence in service, education and enforcement. With a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees throughout the state, the Department is leading the way to A Safer Florida through the efficient and professional execution of its core mission: the issuance of driver licenses, vehicle tags and titles, and operation of the Florida Highway Patrol.



As a Statistician II, you will be authorized to research compile, tabulate and analyze statistical information from fatal traffic crashes, which occur in the State of Florida.  You will also be authorized to monitor submission of electronic fatal crash traffic data information to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as it relates to the Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS) located in Washington, DC for research purposes.  Work requires contact with national, state and local governmental agencies and law enforcement agencies. The incumbent will conduct research and preparing reports of findings as needed.  We are seeking individuals who have experience reviewing statistical data, determining trends and changes and who perform well working independently. This is an entry level analyst position in the FARS unit which supports the Statistician III and Statistician Supervisor. The ideal applicant will have the following qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience analyzing data/information and developing solutions, conducting research and/or gathering information, performing statistical (making sense of numbers/quantitative analysis); and using Microsoft Excel.
  • An Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience applying laws, regulations, polices and/or procedures.
  • One or more years’ experience working with motor-vehicle, law enforcement, or crash-related data.
  • Documented analytical training in the form of a diploma, certificate and/or course completion.

  • Crash Record policies and procedures.
  • State Crash report codes.
  • Preparing and maintaining records, files and reports.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.

  • Researching, analyzing and interpreting policies state and federal regulations.
  • Basic mathematical fundamentals.
  • Analyzing issues, facts and available information to develop logical solutions.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Understand and follow complex instructions.
  • Perform Data Entry.
  • Protect sensitive and confidential information.


Special Note:


Please note that the incumbent of this position may be asked to travel occasionally by air, which may include an overnight stay for up to a week, to represent the agency at annual and regional seminars in other states.
