Position Overview and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for server administration, management, and maintenance of the department’s server infrastructure.
• The development and maintenance of the operations standards for server hardware, software, and utilization.
• Assists in capacity planning for the department’s server, storage, and backup infrastructure.
• Daily monitoring of all servers for potential issues and optimum performance.
• Applies updates, patches and configuration changes to servers, workstations, and mobile devices.
• Leads in the administration of cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365.
• Leads in the administration of Active Directory Domain Services, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and endpoint management services.
• Perform full backups of all software and data on all Windows and Unix/Linux servers. Recovers and restores data as needed.
• Provides tier-three technical and problem-solving assistance to department users. This includes diagnostic evaluation and technical troubleshooting of software and hardware problems.
• Develops and maintains disaster recovery plans.
• Performs security vulnerability remediation.
• Other duties as necessary to fulfill expanding and changing roles/responsibilities of this strategic position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of problem-solving techniques.
• Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V and/or VMware.
• Working knowledge of enterprise class server equipment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
• Knowledge of the backup principles, practices, and technologies.
• Knowledge of command line and scripting languages such as PowerShell, shell scripts.
• Knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls and networking technologies
• Knowledge of cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google.
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot distributed systems.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbal and written information.
• Ability to provision, setup, document and configure existing or new hardware and software solutions.
• Ability to perform server patching, updates, builds, and configuration changes.
• Ability to support and maintain custom and Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) applications.
• Ability to configure, administer and maintain server operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
• Proficient in Active Directory administration.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 4 years of experience in a computer systems analysis role or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in mathematics, engineering, one of the computer sciences or management information systems or closely related field. Relevant technology education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Position requires sedentary work and repetitive motion. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• On-Call Assignment – This position has been approved in accordance with Section 110.209, Florida Statutes, Chapter 60L-32, Florida Administrative Code, and Collective Bargaining Agreements with the Florida Nurses Association (FNA) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Florida Council 79. The approved On-Call form has been forwarded to the servicing human resource office.
• Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duties may include hours in excess of an employee’s routine work schedule (working extended hours, weekends, or holidays).
