The Work You Will Do:
DEP’s Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is currently recruiting for a Systems Programmer I. This is an intermediate-level position responsible for high-level technical oversight and management of network protocols, including TCP/IP, VOIP phone networks and cloud-based networking. The incumbent of this position will represent OTIS and must be helpful, cooperative, polite, respectful, and courteous at all times in interactions with customers. The incumbent must also be available to occasionally work after normal work hours and holidays for on-call duty, as needed.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is an intermediate-level position responsible for high-level technical oversight and management of network protocols, including TCP/IP, VOIP phone networks and cloud-based networking. The employee is expected to identify and meet the needs of customers in order to provide excellent customer service and be available to work after normal work hours and holidays for on-call duty, as needed. The employee should be helpful, cooperative, polite, respectful and concerned at all times in interactions with customers when representing the Department or the State. This position serves as a customer service representative on behalf of this division when interacting with customers through all communication media, as well as when responding to incident/request service desk services.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Coordinate in the management of WAN and LAN operations. Communicates and coordinates with staff responsible for the data network administration, monitoring, and operations. This will include installing performance tuning and integrating network control and monitoring software. Coordinate with the security officer to protect the data of the agency.
- Responsible for ticket triage and resolution, incident tracking and reporting. Provide and update system documentation to include site phone numbers, dial plans, and network addressing.
- Provide any assistance and fully support the efforts of the agency’s Information Technology Strategic Plan. Demonstrate strong relationships and interpersonal skills in working with program staff and vendor community. Maintain a working knowledge of established policies, procedures, and directives necessary to accomplish assignments and responsibilities. Maintain a central filing system supporting assigned functions, duties and responsibilities using effective organizational and filing methods which provide opportunities for knowledge transfer. Maintain proficiency in the use of office equipment, software applications, technical writing and a working knowledge of established policies, procedures, and directives necessary to accomplish daily assignments and responsibilities.
- Maintain an active inventory of telephone, and network equipment for the agency.
- This position requires occasional travel to the agency’s field offices throughout the state.
- Perform other tasks as requested.
Attendance is an essential function of the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work on-call, weekends, and holidays, as needed
- Knowledge of networking principles including TCP/IP, IPv4/6, routing protocols and switching
- Knowledge of the principles of voice over IP
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure and/or other cloud networking technologies
- Knowledge of Cybersecurity concepts and principles
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot networked systems
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems
- Ability to lift and move standard network and telephony equipment
- Ability to travel and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred certifications: Network +, Cisco CCNA, and/or Meraki ECMS
- Experience in configuring and managing VOIP
