This is an onsite position in Tallahassee, Florida.

 

 

 

 

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

DEP’s Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is currently seeking a Systems Programmer I. This position is responsible for technical support of the installation and operation of networked computers running Microsoft and/or Linux server operating systems; network protocols, including TCP/IP; Active Directory, Azure Entra and Exchange Online messaging. The incumbent of this position will represent OTIS and must be helpful, cooperative, polite, respectful, and courteous at all times in the interactions with customers.  

 

Specific duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Manage all Microsoft Windows and/or Linux based operating system servers and software-based systems of the agency, including the Active Directory and direct support to the messaging and network administrators.  Advise management on new or improved technologies and practices.  Maintain and manage users network accounts, including both Active Directory, Azure Entra and Exchange Online.  Provide support of system software through diagnosis of problems and implementation of changes to resolve problems and maintain software at the most current level.  Oversee the operation of the systems to ensure that the data integrity and backups are optimal.
  • Coordinate in the management of WAN and LAN operations.  Communicate and coordinate with staff responsible for the data network administration, monitoring and operations, to include installation, performance tuning and integration of network controls, and monitoring software.  Coordinate with the security officer to protect the data of the agency.
  • Conduct research and development in the implementation and maintenance of network facilities that affect the distributed computer environment. Troubleshoot network and server-based problems and independently develop solutions, as well as work with the network groups to develop solutions. 
  • Provide assistance and fully support the efforts of the agency’s Information Technology Strategic Plan.  Demonstrate strong relationship and interpersonal skills in working with program staff and vendor community.
  • Identify and meet the needs of customers in order to provide excellent customer service.  Incumbent should be helpful, cooperative, polite, respectful and concerned at all times in the interactions with customers when representing the Department or the State.  Serve as a customer service representative on behalf of this division when interacting with customers through all communication media, as well as when responding to incident/request service desk services.
  • Maintain an electronic central filing system supporting assigned functions, duties and responsibilities using effective organizational and filing methods which provide opportunity for knowledge transfer.  Maintain proficiency in the use of office equipment, software applications, technical writing and a working knowledge of established policies, procedures, and directives necessary to accomplish daily assignments and responsibilities.
  • Perform related tasks as requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, VB, bat files
  • Ability to automate regular administrative tasks
  • Knowledge of computers and software
  • Knowledge of PC/Server and mid-range operating systems and network topologies
  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques
  • Ability to work after normal work hours, weekends, and holidays for on-call duty status, as needed
  • Ability to travel to the agency’s field offices throughout the state, as needed
  • Ability to process information logically and solve problems
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot networked systems
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays, as needed
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license

 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, VB, bat files

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.
