BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
As a Linux Systems Administrator, the individual will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux operating systems, as well as setting up both hardware and software systems to support the organization’s infrastructure. The role involves managing user accounts and permissions, implementing access controls, and ensuring system security through firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and secure configurations.
Monitoring system performance and uptime is a key aspect of the position, along with diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues as they arise. The administrator will also apply system patches and updates regularly, and monitor logs and audit trails to identify any suspicious activity.
A strong emphasis is placed on business continuity, requiring the setup and management of system backups and the development and testing of disaster recovery plans. Networking responsibilities include configuring and troubleshooting network interfaces, DNS, DHCP, routing, and VPNs, as well as monitoring network traffic and overall performance.
Automation is another important component of the role. The administrator will write and maintain shell scripts to automate routine tasks, and use package managers to install, update, and manage software. Maintaining version control for custom applications is also expected.
Additionally, the Linux Systems Administrator will provide technical support for system-related issues and work closely with development and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and performance. Accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes is essential to this role
