MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming, two (2) years of which must have been in systems programming; or

 

Six (6) years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming, two (2) years of which must have been in systems programming and either (1) completion of a 720 classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (2) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems. 

 

Experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. 

 

Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one (1) year of the required computer systems analysis and/or computer programming experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

This position is designated to serve in an on-call status.  When activated, the incumbent must respond to the call within 15 minutes, and if necessary, arrive on-site within 1 hour. This includes supporting the Emergency Support Function (ESF) of the department during critical events and disasters.

JOB DUTIES:

 

This position is responsible for server administration, management, and maintenance of the department’s server infrastructure. This includes development and maintenance of the operations standards for server hardware, software, and utilization.


Leads in the administration of cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and Exchange Online.


Leads in the administration of Active Directory Domain Services, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Internet Information Services (IIS) and code deployments.


Provide tier three technical and problem-solving assistance to department users.  This includes diagnostic evaluation and technical troubleshooting of software and hardware problems.  This position will be responsible for being on-call outside of business hours.


Perform full backups of all software and data on all Windows and Unix/Linux servers. Recover and restore data as needed.

 

Assist in capacity planning for the department’s server, storage, and backup infrastructure.


Assist with daily monitoring and problem notification for all servers.

 

Perform related work as required, which will include, but not be limited to adherence to the policies and procedures of the Department’s Information Resource Security Program (Chapter 8 – Department’s Supervisory Manual) and allocate time as requested for Disaster Recovery activities.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V and/or VMware
  • Working knowledge of enterprise class server equipment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server Administration and the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
  • Knowledge of the backup principles, practices, and technologies such as Commvault
  • Knowledge of command line and scripting languages such as PowerShell, shell scripts
  • Knowledge of cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google
  • Knowledge of Internet Information Services (IIS) management
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot distributed systems
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbal and written information
  • Ability to provision, setup, document and configure existing or new hardware and software solutions
  • Ability to support and maintain custom and Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) applications
  • Ability to configure, administer and maintain server operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and Solaris
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
