Bachelor's degree or higher in a Computer Science or Information Technology-related field, such as cybersecurity, programming, computer science, engineering or similar is required -OR- a combination of college coursework and experience as described above may also be interchanged.  Professional work experience can qualify on a year-by-year basis in place of the required education.  College coursework will be considered the equivalent of experience at the rate of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter hours on a year for year basis.


Additional requirements:

  • Five (5) or more years’ experience managing Unix or Linux environments
  • Experience in managing enterprise storage area network (SAN) environments,
  • Experience in managing an enterprise backup, replication, and recovery solutions, and
  • Experience and ability to write custom scripts.


The salary range for this position is $70,000.00 to $80,000.00 per year.


This position may be required to occasionally perform duties other than those listed on the position description.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with users to understand their system needs and to generate appropriate management reports with problem description and proposed solutions. 
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical information. 
  • Ability to process information logically.
  • Ability to communicate on a technical level with both hardware/software vendors and technical staff within the Department and the ability to read and comprehend technical materials. 
  • Knowledge of Solaris and Linux systems and network environments used in the department. 
  • Knowledge of operating systems, telecommunications concepts, and computer operating procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of Solaris and Linux hardware and software. 
  • Knowledge of computer programming. 
  • Knowledge of networking and security principles.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Knowledge of networking software, hardware, and practices.


OTHER KSAs (Incumbent may learn on job):

  • Knowledge of NetApp tools and the NetApp OnTap operating system.



This is technical work in the study, evaluation, installation, maintenance and performance tuning of Solaris and Linux operating systems software, hardware, and storage.

Install, maintain, and support multiple Oracle Solaris, Linux operating systems including support for storage solutions. Including but not limited to:

  1. Perform UNIX and open system troubleshooting, diagnostics, and recovery to provide 24/7 system availability.
  2. Researches, evaluates, and recommends technical solutions in software and/or hardware to provide management and customers with up-to-date information.
  3. Monitor and tune UNIX and open system performance.  Recommend network changes to improve server performance where applicable.
  4. Manage system security.
  5. Performs comprehensive planning for the implementation of UNIX and open systems.
  6. Coordinates and/or performs installation of UNIX and Linux software.
  7. Write custom scripts and programs to monitor or manage system availability and utility.
  8. Install, maintain, and support SANs and SAN Fabrics.
  9. Diagnose software problems and recommend or initiate corrective action. 
  10. Assist applications programmers and program product users in resolving problems.
  11. Maintain knowledge of current platforms, software, and techniques by reading technical publications, attending courses and seminars, and completion of self-study courses.
  12. Perform monitoring, sniffing, related security activities and reporting.
  13. Perform other related duties as required.
