Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the study, evaluation, installation, maintenance coordination and performance of computer operating system software and hardware involved in the integration of the Social Security Administration's (SSA) system with that of the Division of Disability Determinations (DDD).  This position falls under the general supervision of the Chief of Information Services and requires the ability to work both under direct supervision and independently in carrying out the responsibility of the position.  This position also serves as a contract manager as required by Section 287.057 (130), Florida Statutes, for the division.    

 

Supervises the activities of five (t) Network Systems Programmers.  Responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisal, planning and directing work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action if appropriate.

 

Researches and evaluates methods to provide networked systems as well as telecommunications software and hardware support on a rotational or assignment basis for eight (8) Division of Disability Determinations offices located in Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Pensacola.    

 

Manages all aspects of the Local Area Network and the Wide Area Network system including servers, switches, routers, communication devices, and cabling.  This includes installation of all computer hardware, computer operating systems and application software, and other computer-related hardware in the six sites.   Employee provides monitoring, usage, and analysis reports as requested by the bureau chief for the LAN and WAN.

 

Manages all aspects of the statewide telephone system including servers, switches, routers, and cable. This includes installation of all hardware, operating systems and application software, and other computer related hardware in the six sites. Employee provides monitoring, usage, and analysis reports as requested by the bureau chief for the enterprise phone system.     

 

Coordinates and/or participates in the activities necessary to provide comprehensive planning for the implementation and support of SSA's Intelligent Workstation/Local Area Network (IWS/LAN) in the six sites.  This includes installation of all workstations, servers, software installation and upgrades, and training of office staff.

 

Diagnoses problems recognized in SSA software, providing technical solutions and liaison necessary to resolve them.  Designs, develops and implements specialized programs/routines necessary to implement and enhance system software.

 

Develops documentation of system network operation and provides training to systems employees for ongoing operation. Documentation, instructions, and training materials are stored centrally and easily accessible by designated bureau staff.

 

Performs related work as required.  Incumbent may have to perform essential services related to systems during periods of disaster or other emergency conditions.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and ability to manage staff

Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Microsoft Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Desktop, and minicomputer connectivity.

 

Qualifications:      

Minimum -

Experience with Social Security Administration networks and application.

Experience with Avaya phone networks.

Experience with Active Directory.

Experience with IDS.
