The Work You Will Do:
This position serves as the Network and System Administration manager responsible for the management and maintenance of the Department’s network and server infrastructure. This position calls for the ability to manage a small team of local area network and server infrastructure support personnel and provide oversight of Network and Server resources within DBPR offices. The Network and System Administration manager should possess an understanding of typical enterprise infrastructure, network security design principles, strong team involvement and an ability to collaborate and work effectively with other analysts, vendors, developers, customers, and management.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent in this position is the Network and System Administration manager responsible for the management and maintenance of the Department’s network and server infrastructure.
Responsible for the installation, integration, configuration, maintenance, and significant modification of operating systems, applications, network appliances, and hardware supporting DBPR infrastructure across on-premises, colocation, and cloud environments. This position is Accountable for managing the Department’s communication infrastructure which include power management, structured cabling, and telecommunication support functions. Responsible for knowledge transfer of maintenance and configuration skills to subordinate staff. Interfaces with the State Data Center and cloud service providers to plan, action, and resolve issues relating to DBPR’s hosted environments.
Manages staff. Sets priority for and monitors day to day staff activities and functions. Provides training and mentoring to staff. Performs staff evaluations, identifies staffing needs, defines position requirements and modifies position descriptions. Conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations. Manages the implementation of new initiatives including network architecture, server and network infrastructure, and related equipment. Supervises On-Call support staff. Completes appropriate inventory/asset management paperwork and tasks.
Supports selection and testing of potential solutions. Assist in provisioning and configuring infrastructure and equipment in accordance with architectural specifications to support application hosting and access. Oversee requests for infrastructure resources, ensuring servers, storage, and network components are properly configured to meet system requirements in coordination with engineers and technicians. Manage all network and server hardware within designated facilities, including racks, closets, and data centers. Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation, including as-built configurations. Execute infrastructure validation and testing activities to ensure readiness and alignment with architectural standards.
Maintains environment and manages vendor relationships. Monitors logs of all network equipment and uptime and availability of all network equipment utilizing monitoring toolsets. Monitors UPS power management. Reports outages of any equipment to management immediately. Investigates and provides analytical reports to management on any outages. Assists in research and resolution of issues. Monitors delivery of services from the Department of Management Services.
Provide Tier 2-3 Support. Receives, assigns, and monitors trouble tickets and request for support. Researches and resolves issues, documenting activity and solution in the ticket. Meets any established internal and external SLA’s as required. Performs other work related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.
- Knowledge of information technology operations procedures and systems to include:
- switches and routers; VPN and Email Security Appliances; Windows Server; Microsoft SQL; VMWare vSphere; Cloud Infrastructure; Virtualization; etc.
- Knowledge of and experience installing and deploying applications through Group policy and SCCM
- Knowledge of and experience implementing standard enterprise level network Cisco and Juniper switches; Cisco Routers using IOS; Load Balancers; Firewalls; Network Monitoring; Wireless and Security.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively supervise people.
- Ability to provide excellent problem-solving, communication, leadership, judgment and organization skills.
Minimum Requirements:
Four (4) years of experience in a combination of managing windows server environments and network administration; and
At least three (3) years of experience in a leadership capacity, which may include formal supervision or senior-level technical leadership involving project oversight, work prioritization, and team coordination.
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience in the field of Information Technology

Preferences: Preference will be given to applicants who possess Cisco, CCNA, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+ certifications. Preference will also be given to applicants who have experience with voice over IP, network management tools and software, switch topology design, TCP/IP network communications, and network security.
