DESCRIPTION:

This position is located in the Division of Technology and Innovation, Education Data Center, and is the lead for Office of Student Financial assistance (OSFA). This is a highly technical position, installing and administering server-hosted operating systems, specifically Microsoft Windows Server and complex vendor application software for the department. This position is the lead for identifying and rectifying DOE's desktop, printer and server vulnerabilities by monitoring vulnerability scan reports on a daily basis and taking necessary mitigating actions due to the severity and timeliness of the situation. This position is also one of the leads in managing the departments SSL certificates/domains that are required for the continuity of business operations. This incumbent in this position will also be heavily involved in the decommissioning of OSFA servers and applications

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position is primarily responsible for supporting and administering Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) and DOE applications and servers.
  • Ability to work with application developers to deploy applications into an IIS 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 environment according to a documented industry best practice process.
  • Follows Education Data Center standards for programming, validation, security and change management
  • Assures that confidential data are handled, stored, and disposed of as required by Federal and State law and data exchange agreements by administering data security procedures that meet or exceed those requirements
  • Produce up to par infrastructure technical documentation in a timely manner.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret all types of server and application related issues in reference to application and infrastructure interaction; identify and define user task needs and/or conduct short range and long-range project planning studies.
  • Ensures the timely completion of projects (SRs) and tasks.
  • The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple, competing priorities, and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • The employee must interact courteously with others.
  • The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Requires knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of system installation, configuration, support and ongoing maintenance to ensure web services and programs function securely and efficiently.
  • System Administration experience in a Microsoft environment, preferably Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2016, 2019 IIS 7.0/7.5, SSL requests and implementation; Domain Name request and implementation with DNS
