If you have a desire to use analytical and technical skills, then the Workforce Education Data Systems (WEDS) office within the Florida Department of Education invites you to become an essential member of our team. 

 

Job Summary:
The Workforce Education Data Systems (WEDS) office is seeking an individual to serve in a full-time position as a Systems Project Consultant. The individual selected for this position will maintain, support and enhance existing applications, databases and reports, with opportunities to participate in data analysis and technical design projects. 

The ideal candidate for this position has knowledge of SAS programming and the ability to write complex SQL queries. The incumbent maintains and runs database queries, creates reports, analyzes data, validates design and operation of applications, and manages and implements current database structures and procedures. The applicant must be able to develop work products from concept to completion, analyze data and implement bureau initiatives through interagency communication and district level customer support.      

 

Examples of Work: 

•    Manage the data collection processes and reporting requirements for secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs and adult education programs, including generating data reports for validation of data. 
•    Develops and implements database programs and computer applications, and code enhancements including documenting, and maintaining complex program logic and computer systems/applications and determining solutions to procedural and operational problems.
•    Perform the Life Cycle Management (LCM) activities with a goal to increase data review, data quality, clear and concise documentation.
•    Coordinates the data quality testing process by conducting unit and system testing validating the design of newly created databases/applications and modified code. 
•    Process, analyze and verify data reported by districts to the bureau.
•    Design and produce data reports for validating the quality and accuracy of data.
•    Participates in the continuous review of data collection standards including date elements definitions, formats, edits, and reference files. 
•    Maintains positive customer/work relationships with customers and vendors through effective personal and written communication and technical assistance and guidance.
•    Presents to stakeholders at workshops and regional meetings.
•    Provide technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders on data collection and data analysis regarding adult education programs, and career and technical education programs.
•    Maintains and improves personal effectiveness by delivering quality and timely products and services; adapting to changing priorities, demands and expectations; and acquiring and applying new skills and knowledge.

Travel:

This position will travel at least 10% of the time. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of professional work experience conducting needs assessment and/or data analysis. 
  • Three years of professional work experience working with SAS Programming/SAS Enterprise Guide, SQL or other programming languages.
  • Knowledge of database management. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication. 
  • Must be able to travel as needed. 

 

Educational Substitutions / Preferred Qualification:

A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, statistics, or mathematics.

LEAVE INFORMATION:

  • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
