General Summary

This is a responsible professional position performing a variety of accounting duties and responsibilities with a particular focus on reviewing monthly and quarterly Intradistrict reports submitted by Legislators pertaining to district office expenses, and other duties as needed. 

 

Examples of Work Performed

  • Performs review of Legislators’ monthly Intradistrict reports.
  • Answers inquiries and provides technical assistance to Legislators and their staff on Intradistrict funds.
  • Performs audits and processes travel reimbursement and travel vouchers for Legislators and their staff.
  • Reviews and processes contract payments and other expenditures for a number of legislative entities
  • Plans workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with employees.
  • Answers inquiries and provides technical assistance to Legislators and employees on accounting matters.
  • Performs audits and processes payments for contracts, purchase orders, invoices, travel vouchers, and other documents.
  • Ensures the smooth and timely processing of vouchers, invoices, and purchase orders submitted for payment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to an accounting program.
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ability to use tact and exercise good judgement when interacting with Legislators and staff, other agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting and three years of professional accounting or auditing experience; or a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or possession of a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) Certificate can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Professional or nonprofessional accounting or auditing experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor’s degree; or any combination of this experience and up to 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college education including two courses in accounting can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor’s degree.

 

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of State of Florida travel laws/rules
Knowledge of FLAIR.

Salary

Minimum salary of $43,572.00 annually (commensurate with experience).  The Legislature offers a competitive benefits package.
