Staff Attorney/Senior Staff Attorney/Career Attorney in Central Staff

 

The Central Staff Unit offers an exciting opportunity for an attorney to engage in challenging, meaningful legal work at the heart of the Court’s operations. This position involves substantial legal research, writing, analysis, and case management while working on a dynamic and diverse caseload that directly supports the Court’s judges in resolving complex legal matters.

 

Central Staff attorneys work on a wide variety of cases and issues, including emergency filings, complex motions, petitions for extraordinary writs, postconviction appeals, and workers’ compensation appeals. The position provides the opportunity to tackle new and evolving legal questions, requiring thoughtful analysis, sound judgment, and careful interpretation of the law.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who enjoys intellectual challenge, variety, and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the administration of justice. The successful candidate will work closely with the judges of the Court, fellow law clerks, the Clerk of the Court, and the Court’s administrative staff, developing valuable professional relationships and gaining broad insight into the judicial process.

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Central Staff. Members of Central Staff serve at the pleasure of the Chief Judge and are entrusted with work of significant responsibility, providing an opportunity to contribute directly to the Court’s mission while developing and strengthening advanced legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

 

SALARY:

· Senior Law Clerk (at least two years’ experience in the practice of law, after passing the Florida Bar exam) $6,543.32 (Monthly)

· Career Attorney (at least five years’ experience in the practice of law, after passing the Florida Bar Exam) $7,360.34 (Monthly)

 

Education and Training Guidelines

Graduation from an accredited law school, top twenty-five percent preferred. At least two years of experience in the practice of law immediately preceding appointment to the position.

Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain a large caseload and meet deadlines. Knowledge of legal principles, statutory and case law, court rules and procedures. Ability to grasp, comprehend, and analyze complex legal issues and complicated factual matters. Ability to perform exacting work, attentive to details. Ability to digest and communicate ideas and concepts. Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, impartiality, and honesty in handling matters before the court. Ability to work effectively with judges and court staff.
