JOB SUMMARY:

This is a Tax Law Specialist position in the General Tax Administration Program, Refunds and Revenue Accounting Process. The incumbent serves as a subject matter expert and key technical consultant for taxes administered by the Department of Revenue, particularly in the interpretation of Florida Statutes, applicable laws and local ordinances, and the distribution of these taxes. The incumbent reviews financial requirements and assists in the development of accounting policies and procedures related to Taxpayer Accounting and Fund Accounting/Distribution processes, ensuring the proper application of the law and generally accepted accounting principles to maximize efficiency. Additionally, the incumbent supports operational goals by analyzing workflows, identifying areas for improvement, and recommending and implementing process enhancements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently employed with the Florida Department of Revenue.  
  • Five years of professional accounting experience.
  • Five years of experience working with the System for Unified Taxation (SUNTAX).
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in accounting can substitute on a year for year basis for the required accounting experience.
  • A master's degree in accounting can substitute for one year of professional accounting experience.

PREFERENCES:

  • Accounting degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with FLAIR.
  • Experience with Florida PALM.
  • Current experience with distribution of taxes.

SALARY: The hiring salary for this position generally will not exceed $5,838.36 monthly/$70,060.29 annually.
