JOB SUMMARY:

This is a Tax Specialist II position located in Property Tax Oversight (PTO) program's Compliance Assistance process. As a Tax Specialist II, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to property tax knowledge that reviews legislative bills, drafts rules, and provides guidance to taxpayers and local officials. This position reports to the Revenue Program Administrator I, performs administrative work for the process, and supports the team as necessary. The role requires strong analytical skills, clear communication, and an understanding of statutory and administrative law.

This position’s responsibilities include:

  • Assign and track technical inquiries from taxpayers, local officials and governmental entities, Department staff and management, and other Department processes to ensure accurate, professional, and timely responses.
  • Prepare reports reflecting the number and type of inquiries for reporting to management.
  • Assist in monitoring the Property Tax Oversight email portals.
  • Assist in sending mass emails through the PTO email system. 
  • Assist the rulemaking staff in work product review with a particular focus on the rule promulgation process and Chapter 120 requirements.
  • Assist in reviewing alternative form requests from county officials, supporting the team in the review process.
  • Assist Property Tax Oversight staff, taxpayers, and county officials with property tax process questions.
  • Develop a working knowledge of property tax statutes, rules, forms, and processes.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others and learning the personnel related actions in other areas. 
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two or more years of relevant professional experience with the State of Florida’s laws and procedures. *
  • Strong reading comprehension, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.
  • Experience collaborating across interdisciplinary teams.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • * Bachelor’s degree or higher can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

  • This is a Tallahassee based position.

SALARY: $45,823.92 / annually
