SPECIAL NOTES:

This is an internal agency employment opportunity for current employees, including OPS, of the Department of Financial Services, the Office of Financial Regulation, and the Office of Insurance Regulation.

 

Requirements:

  • Five (5) years of experience in a position required to have working knowledge of chapter 440, Florida Statutes or equivalent workers’ compensation statute in a state other than Florida.
  • Five (5) years of experience adjusting workers’ compensation claims.
  • Five (5) years of experience working in a Risk Management Information System, an Insurance Management System, or similar claims system.

 

Preferences:

  • Currently holds or previously held a Florida Adjuster License.
  • A postsecondary degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a workers’ compensation setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Experience working in a claims setting where files are audited.
  • Experience with presumption claims (heart disease, hypertension, and tuberculosis).

 

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Ability to understand and to apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the workers’ compensation program.

  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to solve problems and to make decisions.

  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document work flow, and other activities relating to the improvement of management practices.

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

 

The annual salary for this position is $76,500.00.

 

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This is a supervisory position responsible for managing the Bureau of State Employee Workers’ Compensation Claims’ Presumption Unit (heart disease, hypertension, and tuberculosis).  Primary responsibilities include auditing workers’ compensation claim files for regulatory compliance, as well as identifying relevant steps for appropriate cost containment. This position is also responsible for dealing with highly complex workers’ compensation claims issues and developing workers’ compensation training for all unit employees. Directly supervises four employees.
