Overview:

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.

 

The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

General Description:
This position serves as the Database Administrator Consultant and is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance tuning of the Agency’s database systems. The role ensures the integrity, security, and availability of data across multiple platforms within cloud-based environments. This is complex, technical, and administrative work supporting mission-critical applications and data services used by internal and external stakeholders. The employee will collaborate with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business units to optimize data workflows and support analytics initiatives. Occasional travel may be required to support multi-site operations or project deployments.

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and analyzes the performance of existing databases;
  • Maintains the security and integrity of agency data;
  • Specify and review user access levels for each segment of the database;
  • Assist with audits by supplying and reviewing requested evidence or information;
  • Reviews project requests describing database user needs, estimating time, storage needs, cost, and required resources;
  • Writes logical and physical database descriptions, including location, space, access method, and security;
  • Designs database structure and data models while aligning with procedures;
  • Creates and reviews workflow charts, database management procedures, and other technical documentation;
  • Designs and tests recovery plans, ensures backup integrity, and provides input on redundancy strategies;
  • Creates and maintains agency data dictionaries;
  • Confers with team members, determining scope and limitations of projects;
  • Provides authoritative information or advice on computer systems and programs;
  • Coordinates meetings between stakeholders and team members regarding agency databases;
  • Provides training and answers questions;
  • Installs and configures new database instances or updates to databases;
  • Tests, correct errors, and implement changes to programs or database; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Experience with database design and maintenance in a relational database environment.
  • Experience with database security, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Experience with database utilities and database storage requirements.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications, not required:

  • Microsoft Azure or SQL Server certification.
  • CJIS certification.
  • Application programming experience in a relational database environment (e.g., SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL).
  • Experience designing or implementing database structures, data models, or data dictionaries for an organization.
